Homework Policy in Math: Students are to use the spiral notebook for homework answers. I usually give the assignment for the week. I will download the assignment on Mondays on the computer. If you do not have assess to a computer, please let me know so I can provide a hard-copy for you. Students should also write the assignment in their planner. Homework is never assigned on Friday. There may be some weeks that homework is not assigned. You should know by looking at the planner. Please have all homework turned in on Fridays.
Week of May 1 - 5. We will not have homework this week due to testing and field trip. Please do your best on your test.
Week of Apr. 24 - 28. We will be reviewing for the Benchmark test that is coming up next Tuesday, May 2. Please continue to study your Interactive Notebook, homework problems, IXL practices, go to sites under Downloads and practice problems, go on the internet and find Math problems related to the 6th grade curriculum, and be prepared for the tests to come. We will have a sheet for the week for homework. Make sure you finish this online or the hard copy and return on Friday. Be prepared to explain the answers on the homework sheet.
During the days of Apr. 3 - 13, I did not assign any homework. I chose to give the students a break and had the students to just do whatever they did not finish in class.
Week of Mar. 27 - 31. We will be preparing for the Math Benchmark test that will be for next week. The Language Arts Benchmark will be on Mar. 28, Tuesday. Due to testing, the only homework will be to study the Interactive Notebook and other resources for the test. You should also work on IXL if you have access to a computer at home.
Week of Mar. 20 - 24. In our Geometry lessons this week, we will continue looking at volume with triangular prisms, rectangular prisms, cylinders and nets. We will break 3 dimensional shapes into parts and calculate the surface area of each side. Parts are usually separated as side to side, front to back, and top to bottom. Each of the instructional tasks will be in the Interactive Notebook for help on individual practice. Please make sure the Interactive Notebook is completed at home if not finished in class. The nine weeks are coming to an end very soon, so make sure you do your best to be successful. Get homework finished each night from the sheet.
* Week of Mar. 13 - 17. We will continue our Geometry Unit this week. We will be working on polygons, quadrilaterals, and calculating the area and perimeter of these shapes. Homework sheet is attached to the downloads. Make sure this gets completed and turned in on Friday. You should be doing the work in your spiral notebook. Friday is a 1/2 day. We will have a short Schoolnet test on the work that we have done during the week. Get your Interactive Notebooks ready each day and finish at home if not completed in class. By Friday, answer the Essential Question in the back of your INB. The vocabulary words for the week are : area, base, height, triangle, and quadrilateral. Use the dictionary to find the meanings.
* Week of Mar. 6 - 10. We are finishing up on box and whisker plots; histograms, and will do an entry in our Interactive Notebook on Mean Absolute Deviation. On Wednesday we will start our Geometry Unit- G1. We will be studying area of right triangle, polygons, and using techniques to solve real-world mathematical problems. You can find the homework sheet on the downloads that will be due on Friday. Make sure you finish the Interactive Notebook that may not be finished in class, and answer the essential questions in the back of your notebook. Please remember the volume of the rectangular box is L x H x W and surface area of a triangular prism has 5 sides to measure. There will be a Schoolnet test on Friday, so study the SP 2 and 3 as well as G1.
* Week of Feb. 27 - Mar. 3 We are continuing to study SP 2 and 3. Box and Whisker plots, line graphs, and histograms will be our main interest. We will discuss each task in the Interactive Notebook. If the students follow the directions, then they should be able to do the homework. Make sure you write the definitions of the words: outlier, line plot, shape, spread, and histogram. Use the dictionary on the downloads to help. You will also have a homework sheet that will be due on Mar. 3.
* Week of Feb. 21 - 23. We are working on Mean, Median, Mode, and Range this week. We will be using the following as the vocabulary so use the dictionary to find the definitions: mean, median, mode, range, and average. This is a short week so make sure you study and get homework finished.
* Week of Feb. 13 - 17. This is a very busy week. We have Valentine's Day on Tuesday. Principal Lists and Honor Roll assembly is Tuesday morning for those that have all A's and B's and all S's. On Wednesday, those who qualify for Principal's Pride will go to the Rollerland in the morning. On Friday, students will be dismissed at 12:30 for half day. Intramurals will be in the morning. Staff development if for teachers on the afternoon on the half day. For homework we will have our sheet.
* Week of Feb. 6 - 10. We are reviewing two step equations, finding solutions for substitution of numbers in expressions, and IXL - Z's (1 - 10) Benchmark this week! Please continue to study Interactive Notebooks, and Homework notebook. Please remember that we are half way through the year. MAKE THE LAST HALF GREAT. Remember that the homework sheet is under downloads at work file for the week.
* Week of Jan. 30 - Feb. 3. We are continuing to review for the Benchmark test that is coming up on Thursday, Feb. 9. Please encourage your student to study their Interactive Notebook and review vocabulary in your homework notebook. We will be doing class study groups working on Schoolnet tests.
* Week of Jan. 23 - 27. We will be working on angles, measurement, graphing ordered pair. We will combine the two skills and identity a slope of an angle. We will be using protractors, tracing paper, and graphing paper to identify the angle of a slope. Please
* Week of Jan. 17 - 20. We are studying inequalities and equations in the classroom this week. Please continue to study the notes that I give in the Interactive Notebook. Be familiar with the skills in order to do well on the Benchmark test that is coming very soon. We will also have a sheet for Tuesday - Friday.
* Week of Jan. 9 - 13. We will be doing a sheet with review questions. Please also familiarize yourself with the skills taught in your Interactive Notebook. In class, we will be studying Properties during the week.
* Week of Jan. 3 - 6. We are reviewing skills in preparation for the upcoming benchmark test very soon. Due to this fact, we will not have any written homework for the week. The only assignments will be if any work is not completed in class. Please encourage your child to really pay attention, review Interactive Notebook information and do any IXL at home for review if you have a computer. Thank you for your help.
* Week of Dec. 19 - 20. Tuesday is an early dismissal day. There will be no homework for this week. Wishes for a great holiday season to all of my students and their families. Return to school on January 3, 2017.
* Week of Dec. 12 - 15. We will be working on review skills such as Order of Operations, Multiplication with decimals, and word problems. I will be giving Christmas activites that cover these concepts. The homework sheet will be downloaded and the sheet is Q1:7
* Week of Dec. 5 - 8 We will be working on combining like terms in algebraic expressions with a variety of different activities in order to be able to understand the concept better. We will also be doing IXL Level 6 Y.13/Y.14 We usually have Schoolnet test every Friday that includes the week's assignments. The homework sheet is provided on the downloads page.
* Week or Nov. 25 - Dec. 1 We will be studying Algebraic expressions in class and homework is Sheet Q1:5. You can practice IXL level 6 - Y 1 - 5
Parents and Students- I have had to create a new website because my old site was hacked into. This is why it looks different because a new one had to be created. A big thank you goes out to our Media Coordinator, Vickie Woodard, for helping me get the new site back up. Hopefully, there will not be any more problems and I can keep this site updated. * For the week of Nov. 7 - 10, I gave everyone a math sheet for homework because my site was down. I also gave everyone a sheet for the week of Nov. 14 - 18 for the same reason. Because the Week of Nov. 21 - 23 is a short week, we will not have any homework. Wishes to all of my students and families for a very happy Thanksgiving for those who participate in the holiday. * Week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 4 - We will be studying distributive property, decimals and fractions, prime/composite/divisibility in class. The schoolnet test will be on these skills. You can practice any of the following IXL skills: C.1, R.11, R.12, X.9. There will be no vocabulary this week. The homework sheet will be under downloads. * Week of Oct. 17 - 21- We will be doing decimals with addition, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing. We will also be continuing ratios and proportions. Monday- vocabulary: decimal, quotient, addend, product, and hundredths. Word, definition, picture. Tuesday- IXL -G.1 adding and subtracting decimals. * Week of Oct. 3 - 7 - We will be studying ratios and proportions for the week. Hopefully we will have IXL back up and running. Monday- put the vocabulary words in your notebook: Ratio, part-to-part, part- to- whole, fraction, and proportion. Also (1-10) Tuesday (1 - 10) Wednesday (1 - 10) Thursday (1 - 10). Study on Thursday night also for a schoolnet test on Friday.
* Week of Sept. 26 - 30 Please remind your child to pay attention in class, stop talking during instruction, and study the Interactive Notebook. NOT all students do this, but enough do it for me to send this message. Thank you for your help. * Week of Sept. 12 - 16: Monday- write the word, definition, and picture of the following vocabulary words: absolute value, integers, positive integer, negative integer, opposite numbers. * Week of Aug. 29 - Sept. 2: No written assignment in the spiral notebook. Return the information signed that is given on the first day; bring money ($8) to buy a lock; become familiar with the handbook; read the school policy manual; be aware of the procedures and rules for 6th grade.
